The Armed Security Guard enforces organizational safety and security policies under the leadership of the Director of Safety and Police Department. This role operates in accordance with IAHSS guidelines and best practices.

Protect patients, visitors, and employees by providing escorts, patrolling grounds, and eliminating safety hazards. Deter vandalism, theft, and property abuse through routine patrols of hospital property, including parking lots. Enforce hospital policies on parking, visitation, drug enforcement, and tobacco-free environment.

Monitor hospital activity via closed circuit television and intervene in confrontations as appropriate. Advise dispatcher of duties performed and complete incident documentation. Demonstrate understanding of emergency procedures, alarm response, evacuation, and disaster plans.

Complete mandatory education and IAHSS Basic Training within 90 days of hire. Maintain certification/licensure and present self professionally. Support service-oriented behaviors and inter-disciplinary teams with law enforcement partners.

Requirements

Completion of IAHSS Basic Training Module within 90 days post new hire
Maintains applicable certification/licensure
Demonstrates understanding of emergency procedures, alarm response, evacuation and internal and external disaster plans
Follows organizational hospital policies and procedures with special attention to attendance and punctuality, confidentiality, dress code and display of ID badge
Maintains and presents self in professional manner at all times when on duty
Weekend & Holiday Availability Required

Responsibilities

Protects patients, visitors and employees by providing escorts, patrolling grounds, and eliminating environment of care safety hazards
Deters vandalism, theft and property abuse through routine patrols of all hospital property including parking lots and decks
Enforces hospital policies e.g. parking regulations, visitation policies, drug enforcement, and tobacco free/smoking policy
Monitors hospital activity on closed circuit television to be alerted to escalating situations
Intervenes in patient, visitor and/or staff confrontations as appropriate
Responds to emergency situations and hospital alarms as designated
Completes appropriate documentation of various incidents
Remains on assigned post and completes all post specific duties
