About this role

Ensures the Guthrie’s Campuses are safe and secure for patients, employees, and visitors by routinely patrolling all buildings and grounds. Responds as required to requests for assistance from patients, employees or visitors. Reports to the Regional Coordinator for Security or their designee.

Tours the Campus Hospital and grounds on a frequent basis, insuring all open departments are secure and safe. Ensures closed departments are locked and secure from intruders, and perimeter entrances secure at designated hours. Maintains high visibility in the hospital emergency department.

Assists in transporting patients within the building or to vehicles as requested by nursing personnel. Responds promptly and courteously to calls for assistance by hospital personnel. Observes buildings and grounds closely during patrols for unsafe conditions and reports to supervisor.

Acts in a courteous and friendly manner toward patients, visitors, and employees at all times. Required to work rotating shifts, nights, evenings, days, holidays, weekends, and overtime hours. Completes a minimum of eight hours continuing education per year on security related issues.

Requirements

  • NYS registration as security guard required for New York sites or active law enforcement license
  • Valid Drivers’ License required
  • One or more years’ experience in institutional security, preferably in a health care facility
  • Working knowledge of the different departmental functions within a hospital
  • Working knowledge of state and federal security regulations affecting hospitals
  • Experienced in effectively interacting with people
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Willing to submit to fingerprinting for a background check

Responsibilities

  • Routinely patrol all buildings and grounds
  • Tour the Campus Hospital and grounds to ensure departments are secure and safe
  • Assist in transporting patients within the building or to and from vehicles
  • Respond promptly and courteously to calls for assistance
  • Observe buildings and grounds for unsafe conditions and report to supervisor
  • Restrain patients, visitors, or employees when necessary to protect personnel or property
  • Complete detailed reports of incidents occurring during work shift
  • Complete a minimum of eight hours continuing education per year on security related issues
