About this role
As part of the Regional Security Services team, the Healthcare Protection Officer (HPO) is responsible for the physical and personal security for members, staff, and visitors within health care client facilities. This includes responding to emergency situations, preserving order, and enforcing regulations related to personnel, visitors, and premises. HPOs protect staff and property from theft or damage, or persons from hazards and interference, including potential workplace violence.
HPOs respond to crimes in progress, make private person arrests when necessary and within policy, and lead Code Gray response teams. They lead de-escalation efforts, provide a professional security presence, and act as a safety ambassador for the facility. Daily duties include providing campus safety recommendations and liaising with administrative and clinical leadership.
HPOs partner with security and clinical leaders to establish a unified care team that identifies and mitigates security and workplace violence risks. They establish and maintain good working relationships with local law enforcement. As facility subject matter experts, they respond to and investigate incidents of workplace violence.
HPOs lead and support threat management investigations, mitigating potential threats through collaboration with stakeholders and the Threat Management Team. They provide Prevention of Workplace Violence training to all staff and train and evaluate new officers. Occasional travel is required, including some overnight stays, with reliable transportation needed.
