About this role

Ensures the safety and security of patients, guests, employees, and property by enforcing policies and procedures in a professional and courteous manner. This role combines general security duties with specialized canine handling responsibilities. Successful candidates will work overtime on a regular basis.

Conduct facility patrols, respond to security incidents, and locate missing patients while enforcing regulations. Handle canine health through daily inspections, preventative medicine, and emergency first aid. Train the canine in obedience, scent detection, firearms, and explosive detection per security policies.

Assist in de-escalation, behavioral health response, and emergency drills within Sutter Health facilities. Perform routine duties like crime prevention, safety enforcement, and report writing. Provide public demonstrations of canine capabilities to enhance security presence.

Maintain detailed records of canine training, medical care, and deployments while ensuring compliance with laws and standards. Adhere to safe handling practices for care, feeding, and housing. Participate in a healthcare security environment focused on professional service.

Requirements

  • HS-High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • DL-Valid Driver’s License required to operate Sutter Health vehicles
  • PSO - Proprietary Private Security Officer within 30 days of start date
  • K-9 Training within 90 days of hire
  • 5 years of experience in Security, Law Enforcement, or Military
  • 3 years of experience as a certified K-9 handler
  • Technical knowledge of canine behavior, handling techniques, and emergency first aid for canines
  • Proficiency in computer and Windows-based applications for data entry and information retrieval

Responsibilities

  • Conduct facility patrols, lock/unlock buildings, and respond to security incidents
  • Locate missing patients and mitigate criminal activity
  • Enforce security regulations to ensure the safety of all persons and property
  • Conduct regular health assessments and preventative medicine for the canine
  • Train and maintain the canine’s proficiency in obedience, scent detection, and security functions
  • Utilize the canine for firearms and explosive detection in accordance with security policies
  • Provide public demonstrations of canine capabilities to educate and enhance security presence
  • Maintain detailed records of canine training, medical care, and deployment activities
