Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance (DZCA) leads in animal care, wildlife conservation, and education, committed to inspiring communities to save wildlife. The Security Officer II maintains a safe environment by responding to risks, hazards, and unauthorized access across campus. This role monitors systems and documents incidents to protect guests, staff, and animals.

Officers conduct frequent patrols of grounds and buildings to identify vulnerabilities and suspicious activities. They monitor CCTV, access controls, and weather systems per department policies. Responses to emergencies include implementing procedures and recording activities in electronic logs.

The role involves administering first aid, assisting guests professionally, and fostering a safety-first culture. Primarily roving patrols support other security staff campus-wide. Snow and ice removal aids operations as needed.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years of experience in civilian or military security, safety, or loss prevention
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English preferred
  • Available to work weekends and holidays as needed
  • Ability to monitor CCTV and electronic access control systems
  • Knowledge of emergency policies and procedures
  • Capable of administering first aid
  • Physically able to conduct roving patrols across campus

Responsibilities

  • Conduct frequent and visible patrols across the DZCA campus, including grounds and buildings, to identify hazards, vulnerabilities, unauthorized individuals, or security concerns
  • Monitor and utilize CCTV, electronic access control, weather systems, and other security technologies according to department policies
  • Identify and report suspicious, unsafe, or criminal activities, ensuring access limited to authorized personnel
  • Respond to emergency calls from Security Department, staff, or public and implement emergency procedures
  • Administer first aid to sick or injured individuals and collaborate with medical and public safety teams
  • Record patrol activities, incidents, and data in electronic logging system and produce incident reports
  • Enhance guest experience by assisting visitors, answering questions, and resolving issues professionally
  • Care for, maintain, and track DZCA security equipment and assist with snow and ice removal
